Safety Rules

Bubble soccer is a contact sport played inside a metre of inflatable plastic. It is very safe when everyone follows the same six rules, and it is not when they don’t.

The six rules of contact

Your host runs through these before anybody puts a suit on, and enforces them all session. They are the whole safety model — almost every bubble soccer injury anywhere is one of these six being ignored.

  1. 01

    Front-on hits only

Hit the bubble, from the front, with the bubble. Never from behind and never from the side when someone cannot see you coming.

  2. 02

    Down means out of play

Everybody goes over — that is the point. Nobody hits a player who is already down. Help them back up instead.

  3. 03

    Hands stay in the handles

Both hands in the straps and your head inside the bubble. Arms out is how wrists and fingers get hurt.

  4. 04

Stay on your feet, stay on the pitch

No running starts from off the field, no diving head-first, and no leaving the marked pitch while wearing a bubble.

  5. 05

    Stop on the whistle

One whistle means stop moving, every time, immediately. It is usually because your host has seen something you have not.

  6. 06

The host has the final word

On matchups, on time-outs, on whether play continues and on whether someone sits the next game out. No debate on the pitch.

Ignore them twice and you are done for the session. We would much rather have an awkward conversation with one person than take somebody to hospital.

Before you play

Everything on this list is checked at the briefing. It takes about five minutes.

  • Waiver signed. Every player, no exceptions.
  • Pockets empty. Keys, phones, wallets, pens and vapes go in a bag on the sideline.
  • Nothing hard or sharp on you. Watches, rings, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, hair clips, lanyards and belt buckles all come off.
  • Glasses off where possible. If you cannot play without them, they need a sports strap, and you accept the risk of them being knocked.
  • Trainers or turf shoes. No metal or moulded studs, no sandals, no bare feet, no socks on a gym floor.
  • Long hair tied back. Shin pads are welcome if you have them.
  • Water on the sideline. It is hotter inside a bubble than you expect, in any weather.

Who can play

Height
Players need to be about 4 ft 10 in (147 cm) or taller for the shoulder harness to hold them safely. Under that, the suit shifts on impact instead of carrying it.
Under 19s
Welcome, with a parent or legal guardian signature on the waiver and a responsible adult on site for the whole session.
Fit
If a harness cannot be fastened safely on someone, they cannot play. We will find them a real job instead — refereeing a side, keeping score, filming — and nobody makes a thing of it.
Mixed groups
We match players by size, not by age, and split the pitch where a group has a wide spread. Adults and kids do not go head-to-head.

Who should sit this one out

This is a full-contact activity with sudden impacts and hard falls. Please do not play, and tell your host on the waiver, if any of these apply:

  • You are pregnant
  • You have had a concussion in the last three months, or any head, neck, back or spine injury
  • You have a heart condition, or high blood pressure that is not controlled
  • You have had surgery in the last six months, or have a recent fracture, dislocation or joint injury
  • You have epilepsy or a seizure disorder triggered by exertion
  • You have asthma and do not have your inhaler with you
  • You have had a drink, or anything else, before the session

If you are unsure, ask your doctor. Your host is trained in first aid and in running the games — they are not qualified to make a medical call on your behalf, and they will not pretend otherwise.

Alcohol and drugs

Zero tolerance, before or during play. Not one beer, not a stag-do exception, not for the person who insists they are fine.

Your host will refuse an individual player or end the whole session, and a session ended for this reason is not refunded. If you are building a bigger day around it, book the bubbles first and the bar afterwards — that order works, the other one does not.

The pitch and everyone around it

  • Spectators stay at least 3 m back from the marked playing area
  • Nobody steps onto the pitch during a game — including for photos
  • Small children and dogs stay well clear and with an adult
  • Bags, chairs, coolers and cake tables go behind the spectator line
  • Goals and posts are not for climbing or sitting on
  • Anyone who steps onto the pitch, for any reason, must have signed a waiver

What we do on our side

  • Every suit is cleaned and sanitised between bookings, and inspected before it goes out
  • We walk the pitch before setup and remove or mark anything hazardous — sprinkler heads, stones, holes, dog waste
  • We check pressure and harnesses on all six bubbles at setup and through the session
  • Games run five minutes at a time so nobody plays past the point where they are tired and careless
  • Your host briefs every player, referees every game and stops play the moment it needs stopping
  • A stocked first aid kit and a first-aid-trained host are on site for the whole booking
  • We call weather early rather than late

If someone gets hurt

Play stops on the whistle. Your host attends, gives first aid, and calls 911 if there is any doubt at all — particularly for anything involving a head, a neck or a back.

We write up every incident, however minor, on the day. You can have a copy of the report on request, and you should tell us afterwards if something turns out to be worse than it looked. Reporting it late does not cost you anything; not reporting it makes it hard for anyone to help.

Our liability cover and the waiver everyone signs are explained on the Insurance & Waivers page.

When we stop a session

Your host can pause or end a session at any point for weather, an unsafe surface, equipment, or how people are behaving.

Stopped for weather or our own kit, you are covered by the cancellation terms — a refund or a credit for what you missed. Stopped because of drink or behaviour, there is no refund. Questions before you book are always welcome: (250) 812-0730.
